GENERAL SUMMARY:  The freelance editor will work in LA 18 KSCI-TV¡¯s digital media production facility to edit Mandarin-language television programs including dramas, variety shows and news.  This position is ideally suited for someone passionate about Chinese television shows.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.          Edit Chinese language television programs to format for commercial breaks by deadline. 

2.          Manage editing schedule according to programming and production departments so shows are edited by deadline.

3.          Flip the edited shows into various servers for broadcast.

4.          Input time codes and show duration into computer and send to Traffic with house numbers by deadline.

5.          Quality-control the shows that do not need editing by checking the video and audio quality, and screen program content according to FCC guidelines.

6.          Perform miscellaneous duties as needed.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

1.          Must be fluent in Mandarin Chinese, written and spoken.  This is critical in order to understand story and plot lines.  Basic English language ability is also required.

2.          Video editing skills:  both tape-to-tape and digital editing skills are strongly preferred.  Will use Grass Valley and Edius editing systems. 

3.          Knowledge of Avid editing system preferred.

4.          Understanding of basic media formats and how to use dubbing systems is essential.

5.          Must be able to effectively multitask and work under tight deadlines.

6.          Good communication skills a must.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  A minimum of two years experience as a video editor required, preferably editing long form programs. 

WORK SCHEDULE:  Monday through Friday: 30-35 hours per week.  Flexible hours and days will be considered.
